Today I want to write
just a little about the Marabou storks, something very interesting. Bwana Afya
is a swahili word which means Heath caretaker. Probably you have had read
somewhere about birds, I know there are many birds which are beautiful,
attracting but these marabous are amazing.
In Tanzania Lake zone
regions, I mean near Lake Victoria whether Tanzania, Kenya or Uganda, these
birds are famous and well known. First and foremost, If you see them around
your street, Know that you are friend of waste, because they love waste
environment. You Know why? Because they have a tendency of cleaning the
environment, due to that, people around Lake zone TZ, especially in Mwanza have
nicknamed them BWANA AFYA(Health Care taker).
Interesting? You will
find them in dumps trying to eat some remains, but also you will find them at
the shore of the Lake. They walk like they are in Miss universe Contest, in
such a way that you might think they are lazy birds but they will prove you
wrong once you throw a piece of fish towards them. They are 2Ft long plus a
long neck.
MUSCULAR? What caught
my eyes, was when the Marabou ate the whole Samaki (Fish) within a min second,
imagine a 2kg fish, 6 inch being swallowed within a seconds! Ahsante that is
just a little about BWANA AFYA.
